wk05 Title Screen Final Phase

When i was going to animate this, I only had a few different options to animate, the characters, the "Press Start to Begin" and the background. Meanwhile the majority of the image was static, as in the buildings, so I had to make due. I began by making the words blink in and out which I did by changing the opacity as time went on. Then I focused on the background, which was the smoke and the moon. I slowly moved the smoke back and forth but I don't think it's that noticeable. The Moon is moving in one movement and as I slide it across the screen, I added more starts to make it seem like the night was going. Finally I came to the character. I wasn't sure about how I was going to get them t move fluidly, so I decided to just wing it and changed their position multiple times. I like how this turned out because I was able to move them on and off screen, to go between buildings, and end up back where they started. The only problem was that the characters are static as they moving, which is a little disorienting, but I still like the overall concept. When I become better at animating, I'll come back adn make this look better and more fluid.

  1. the game opening was really nicely done. I really liked the way the moon moved with the stars. The animation for the characters was really good too. Something that I notice was that the characters moved really fast which was the same problem I had with my characters. What you could have done was space it out more so that the movement can be more slower. But overall I really like your work.

  2. I like the background a lot, it gives the title screen a worldly effect.

  3. theres alot going on in your title screen thats dynamic and eye grabbing. i like the building layouts, i think that represents the city in your game correctly. the characters give some good foreground movement, yes their bodies dont move, but try searching for some sprite sheets of similar looking characters to get better looking character animations. your game title as a billboard is a great idea, but you can execute it better by finding a reference of a beat down billboard online and then placing your logo over it and using layer style make it look like the title is on the billboard. the smoke is good but can be used more strategically. instead of having it behind the billboard, place it in front partly obscuring the title. the smoke on the right gets lost with the fast moving sky. you have a nice spot right in the middle of the screen, where smoke can come out of the front right building and cover the back left building some. i love the background effect, it looks like a black and white movie playing on an old movie projector screen. im not talking about the moon and stars but this sepia toned lighting glowing on and off. thats really well done, you may think about applying that over the entire screen and making that part of your style. you should rethink how the moon and starts are moving. the moon crosses the screen once per loop so i am expecting to see the sun fly by after the moon. to see the moon constantly flying by makes me think that im in an alternate reality or planet with moons and no sun. also that suggests a fast passage of time which to me means the characters are moving very slow. i like the motion in the sky but maybe it needs to be like steampunk air blimps or clouds and the moon and stars are stationary
