The game is called Lexington Corner, a top down, turn based strategy game set in the City state of Lexington. Similar to Fire Emblem, the player controls one group of players, the military, and goes against an enemy AI, the Gangs of Lexington.
The entire game takes place in the rapidly expanded city state of Lexington, which has been created out of this white stone that is plentiful in the nearby quarries. Due to the smog created by factories and lack of order in the poor districts of the city, the white buildings have blackened, almost as if it represented the decay of the city due to gangs and industrialization. While having a large supporting cast, the main two characters are Lenox and the Beast, who only met a few times throughout the game, it makes Lenox unique since no one else in the military has seen the Beast and lived. The other characters also resemble animals that appear humanoid such as bird like people, and large Rhinos and Elephants. I choose to move away from actual humans with animal likeness and just going with animals with human likeness because I found it worked better with the feel of the game.
With the coming of industrialization, the City-state quickly grew out of hand and the government quickly lost control. Due to this, factories began selling their mass produced goods to whoever would buy them, creating a large black market that the gangs used to get their weapons and the citizens of Lexington used to buy protection from the gangs. For the most part, this consisted of pistols, but the gangs began to work with factories to get better weapons such as rifles and shotguns. This is before automatic weapons, but the guns created were able to have small clips that hold multiple rounds. By focusing on the Technology of the City, I decided to scrap my original idea of a world filled with transformation magic and instead chose to have a world where magic never existed and was more like our own timeline with animals being the main species that evolved into civilizations.

Your concept lay out is very detailed and organized. All of your graphics fit the style nicely. I like how you chose a theme for the look of you game using a specific font with the same colors. The game idea itself seems developed. Keep up the good work.
ReplyDeleteAnother strong research phase. Very well thought out game concept followed through with consistent reference gathering. Your final deliverables follow in a similar manner. Your intro image is really well designed. Great use of fonts, color scheme along with the shapes and layer styles you learned. The calligraphy style font works really well with this game idea. Your shape is also well suited to go with that font, but the inside of the shape is too simple compared to the font and the outside of the shape. Your should cut elegant style holes in those two circles to place the font within, which means you will have to scale up the shape a bit and scale down the font. Or an even cooler idea than that, would be to select the shape of the font and delete that from the shape and have that negative space be the title instead of actual font. Research old world furniture to see elegant wood carved shapes that you could upgrade your shape with also. Also try making your glow greyscale like your background and I think it will fit better or make your background sepia tone like old photographs to make it fit your font better. As for your three other images, they are consistent with their style but that style needs a bit of refinement to get at the level of quality that your intro image is at. Instead of a blue background, try a faded out backdrop like a city or blacksmith or factory but low opacity and wiped with the blue color like a wax seal on a letter. Using that type of idea, you can incorporate your content images into the general style of your game and make everything feel like its all from the same game universe. Awesome job, just giving those refinement suggestions to get it to the next level.
